Introduction
Many UK communities cannot afford, or access, the food needed for a healthy diet. What (and how) we eat affects our health and wellbeing, and also the local economy, social cohesion and wider physical environment. Despite national healthy eating campaigns (5-A-Day), and support for some families on low incomes (Healthy Start), the UK diet fails to meet any government recommendations. Just 20% of the UK population eat the recommended 5 daily portions of fresh fruit and vegetables. Fresh Street is working to change this.
